Sometimes you run across a piece of information and it sparks a new investigation into your family history. And sometimes that investigation starts with a random message on your answering machine. I got just such a message a few days ago from my Mom and it sent me on a research mission that I have yet to fully resolve.
My Grandparents Gary Warren Clifford Trickle and Joan Catherine Palmer (yes, that is where my name comes from) were married in Skamania county Washington on October 9th, 1956. They went on to have seven children together before the divorced sometime after my youngest uncle was born in 1967. My Grandfather's obituary lists all of his children, his brothers and sisters and a fiancee Diane Krieger as his next of kin. No second spouse or other children are listed and I found out today that is simply because we didn't know the second spouse existed.
Gary Trickle and Christine M. Chenette were married in Vancouver Washington on August 19th, 1975, two years before my Grandfather died. There is no mention of Christine in any other records that I can find some my guess is that she is still alive but that just leaves more questions. Where is she? How do I find her? Does she want to be found? Do I have other Aunts and Uncles that I don't know about? And what happened between her and my Grandfather to cause him to leave her and become engaged to another woman within two short years?
All good questions I think and for now questions that remain un-answered. I am not easily budged from a mystery though so this curious researcher is off to solve a marriage mystery.
Until next time...
